Colonel Thomas H. Campbell III Headquarters and Service Battalion Commanding Officer

Colonel Thomas H. Campbell III served as the Special Operations Branch Chief within the Operations Directorate of United States European Command at Stuttgart, Germany. 

A native of Orange, California, Colonel Campbell graduated from the University of San Diego and was commissioned in 1994. He previously served as the Commanding Officer of Marine Medium Helicopter Training Squadron 164, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing from June 2012 to November 2013; as the operations officer of Marine Aircraft Group – Afghanistan, Marine Expeditionary Brigade – Afghanistan from December 2013 to June 2014; and attended the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania from August 2014 to June 2015. 

Colonel Campbell is a naval aviator and has served in several CH-46E squadrons.  Previous assignments include Marine Expeditionary Unit deployments with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 266 from 1998 to 2002; OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM with Regimental Combat Team Two while the air officer for 2d Reconnaissance Battalion from 2002 to 2003; and OIF 2.5 and Marine Expeditionary Unit deployments with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 365 from 2004 to 2007. 

He instructed aviation integration and served as head of the Air Officer Department at Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One from 2007 to 2010 and served on the staff of the Deputy Commandant of the Marine Corps for Aviation from 2010 to 2011.

Colonel Campbell is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School, the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One air officer course and holds a Masters of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.  He is joyfully married and has four sons.
