Old Building, New Mission - U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Robert F. Hedelund, Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force Atlantic, and Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Northern Command speaks with Mr. Bill Crone, Construction Director for Navy Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic in the Marine Camp Elmore (MCE-9) building at Camp Elmore in Norfolk, Virginia, March 24, 2021. This meeting signifies the start of converting previously used training rooms, classrooms, and administrative offices into fully-functioning, mission-capable headquarters spaces in support of the Commandant’s force restructure initiatives. The interior reconfiguration will accommodate the new P&O, South detachment. The upgraded administrative workspaces will be occupied by personnel assigned to manpower, reserve integration, plans, forward-deployed plans and execution, global force analysis, aviation force analysis, and readiness functions. Wolfe, Director of Strategic Systems Programs, visit Marine Corps Security Force Regiment (MCSFR) for a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle(JLTV) capabilities brief and demonstration Sept. 22, 2020, at Naval WeaponsStation, Yorktown, Virginia. The JLTV has several safety features, including an advanced hull design built to optimize survivability against a full range of blast and ballistic threats, as well as blast protected seats, restraints, and stowage to minimize crew impact during adverse events. Deborah Hager, Pfc. George W. Elmore’s niece, is presented a token of appreciation during a ceremony, where Camp Allen was rededicated as Camp Elmore in honor of Korean War Navy Cross recipient, Pfc. Elmore, Nov. 27, 2018 at Camp Elmore, Norfolk, Virginia. Elmore, while serving as an automatic rifleman in Korea, was killed February 26, 1951 and was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross.
