WEBVTT 00:00.370 --> 00:02.481 I'm Sergeant Evan Bell . I'm with the 00:02.481 --> 00:04.780 Second Marine Division band stationed 00:04.789 --> 00:06.678 out of camp Lee and I'm a flu and 00:06.678 --> 00:09.010 Picolo player . We are out here at UN C 00:09.020 --> 00:11.187 Pembroke for the Military Appreciation 00:11.187 --> 00:13.131 game and we actually went over for 00:13.131 --> 00:16.139 their half time and we played with the 00:16.149 --> 00:18.316 away team as well as the UN C Pembrook 00:18.316 --> 00:21.459 bands in a Military Appreciation 00:21.860 --> 00:24.329 halftime show . It's phenomenal . It's 00:24.340 --> 00:26.430 great to hear other musicians and to 00:26.440 --> 00:29.489 see the talent of these colleges and 00:29.500 --> 00:31.444 what they bring to the table . The 00:31.444 --> 00:33.799 biggest takeaway that I've had in while 00:33.810 --> 00:36.590 being in the band is just knowing that 00:36.599 --> 00:38.710 there's always at least one person in 00:38.710 --> 00:40.710 the crowd who's never seen a marine 00:40.710 --> 00:42.720 before . And this might be the only 00:42.729 --> 00:44.618 time they ever see a marine and a 00:44.618 --> 00:48.209 marine musician and just showcasing the 00:48.220 --> 00:50.520 face of the Marine Corps to all these 00:50.529 --> 00:52.751 people and letting them know that we're 00:52.751 --> 00:54.751 the first to fight as well as being 00:54.751 --> 00:57.000 Marine Corps bandsmen . Yes . So the 00:57.009 --> 00:58.898 first thing you're going to do is 00:58.898 --> 01:01.120 you're going to reach out to your local 01:01.120 --> 01:03.231 recruiter . Uh , your local recruiter 01:03.231 --> 01:05.398 will then get in contact with an MTA , 01:05.398 --> 01:07.620 a musician , technical advisor and they 01:07.620 --> 01:09.842 will go about the process of giving you 01:09.842 --> 01:11.898 an audition . And in that audition , 01:11.898 --> 01:14.069 they will assess you on how well you 01:14.080 --> 01:16.247 play your music that you've prepared . 01:16.319 --> 01:18.400 They'll give you 24 hour pieces to 01:18.410 --> 01:20.319 quickly prepare as well as sight 01:20.330 --> 01:22.400 reading . And from there , they will 01:22.410 --> 01:25.000 assess you . And if you pass the 01:25.010 --> 01:27.919 audition , they will get you over back 01:27.930 --> 01:29.986 to the recruiter and you'll sign the 01:29.986 --> 01:31.986 contract and you'll go through boot 01:31.986 --> 01:34.208 camp . So a day in the life of being in 01:34.208 --> 01:36.208 the band , especially in the second 01:36.208 --> 01:38.041 Marine division band , we have a 01:38.041 --> 01:39.874 secondary job as well as being a 01:39.874 --> 01:41.819 security detail for the commanding 01:41.819 --> 01:44.260 general . So a day to day for us is 01:44.269 --> 01:46.919 we'll start in the morning , the PT as 01:46.930 --> 01:49.919 every good marine should and then we 01:49.930 --> 01:51.874 will go out the day practicing and 01:51.874 --> 01:54.152 preparing for any upcoming commitments , 01:54.152 --> 01:56.750 ceremonies that we have as well as just 01:56.760 --> 01:59.680 making sure we're taking care of all of 01:59.690 --> 02:01.790 our logistical areas . We have a 02:01.800 --> 02:03.300 training section . We have 02:03.300 --> 02:06.629 administration , we have our own public 02:06.639 --> 02:09.610 affairs , things of that nature . So we 02:09.619 --> 02:11.770 have multiple experiences that we can 02:11.789 --> 02:13.511 get with the band . When I was 02:13.511 --> 02:15.789 stationed at Marine Corps , Ruit Depot , 02:15.789 --> 02:18.011 San Diego , we actually were able to go 02:18.011 --> 02:20.122 on multiple recruiting tours while we 02:20.122 --> 02:22.178 were out there going up and down the 02:22.178 --> 02:24.122 west coast as well as going to the 02:24.122 --> 02:26.345 Midwest of the United States and really 02:26.345 --> 02:29.039 just performing for high schoolers , 02:29.050 --> 02:32.679 college level musicians and showcasing 02:32.690 --> 02:34.801 what the Marine Corps has to offer to 02:34.801 --> 02:37.339 these up and coming musicians . Another 02:37.350 --> 02:39.461 thing that I was able to do being out 02:39.461 --> 02:41.683 here at the Second Marine Division Band 02:41.683 --> 02:43.906 is we were able to travel out to France 02:43.906 --> 02:46.860 to do the Bella Wood ceremony , which 02:46.869 --> 02:49.940 was absolutely phenomenal . There is a 02:49.949 --> 02:53.100 lot of history in those sacred grounds 02:53.110 --> 02:56.100 for the Marine Corps from the Battle of 02:56.110 --> 02:58.600 World War One Battle Bella Wood . We 02:58.610 --> 03:00.832 were also able to , while we were there 03:00.832 --> 03:03.240 travel up to Belgium to do the Belgium 03:03.250 --> 03:05.699 International tattoo with French 03:05.710 --> 03:08.190 bandsmen . And these are all military 03:08.199 --> 03:10.350 bandsmen . French bandsmen , Belgian 03:10.360 --> 03:13.169 bandsmen , as well as a few other 03:13.179 --> 03:15.235 groups such as the Polish . And that 03:15.235 --> 03:17.290 was just a phenomenal experience and 03:17.290 --> 03:20.740 being able to travel and see a wealth 03:20.750 --> 03:23.470 of the world and see everything that 03:23.479 --> 03:25.201 the world has to offer is just 03:25.201 --> 03:28.179 phenomenal , being a musician in growth . 03:29.149 --> 03:32.149 And when I say growth , I mean , not 03:32.160 --> 03:34.789 only growing as a marine , growing as a 03:34.800 --> 03:37.279 musician , but also growing as a person . 03:37.399 --> 03:39.800 I came straight out of high school and 03:39.809 --> 03:43.100 it was a , the Marine Corps is a great 03:43.110 --> 03:46.270 way to grow up and it teaches you 03:46.929 --> 03:50.240 all of the morals values and lessons 03:50.250 --> 03:53.580 that you need to be at four years . Be 03:53.589 --> 03:55.850 it 20 years when you will leave the 03:55.860 --> 03:57.916 Marine Corps and you will come out a 03:57.916 --> 03:58.699 better civilian
