Brigadier General Thomas M. Armas

Brigadier General Thomas M. Armas is from Rye, NY. He graduated from Northeastern University with a BS in Criminal Justice, enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1992 and earned his commission upon graduation from Officer Candidate School in December 1994.

Brigadier General Armas' assignments in the Fleet Marine Forces include: Rifle Platoon Commander, and Executive Officer with Company B, Heavy Weapons Platoon Commander Weapons Company,1st Battalion, 3d Marines (1995-1997), participating in Unit Deployment Program, Okinawa, Japan, and 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, participating in exercise Foal Eagle, South Korea; assistant Operations Officer, 81MM Mortar Platoon Commander and Weapons Company Executive Officer, 2nd Battalion 25th Marines (2005-2007), participating in Exercise Shared Accord (Senegal, Africa); Commanding Officer Company F, 2nd Battalion 25th Marines (2007-2009) deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2008-09; Regimental Logistics Officer, 25th Marine Regiment (2010-2011); Commanding Officer, 3d Battalion, 25th Marines, (2011-2013), participating in Exercise Western Accord (Senegal, Africa), and Exercise Saber Strike (Riga, Latvia); Plans, Policy and Future Operations Officer (N-5), ESG V, Task Force 51(TF 51.5), U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (2014), deploying to Bahrain and Iraq; Senior Reserve Advisor/ Deputy Commander Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group, U.S. Marine Forces Command (2016-2019); Assistant Division Commander 4th Marine Division (2020-2022); Deputy Commander Fleet Marine Forces Atlantic, Marine Forces Command, Marine Forces Northern Command (2024-P).

Joint assignments include: Action Officer, Joint Inter-Agency Coordination Group, Central Command (2004-2005), twice deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; Chief of Operations, CJ33, 18th Airborne Corps U.S. Army, Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (2017), deploying to Kuwait.

Brigadier General Armas is a graduate of Infantry Officers Course, Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program (DEP), Marine Corps Command and Staff College DEP, Joint Forces Staff College DEP, NATO Defense College resident course, Rome, Italy, and holds an MA, in International Affairs from New England College.

Brigadier General Armas’ personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Navy and Marine Corps Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars in lieu of the fourth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star in lieu of the second award, and Combat Action Ribbon.
