NORFOLK, Va. (Oct. 29, 2013) - Sgt. Matthew Sweigert poses for a picture with his wife Isabella and daughter Haley. The Sweigert family was selected as the Marine Military Family of the Year 2013. Over the course of the year, Sweigert coached the Tigers baseball team, in the 757 wooden bat leagues from a 4-20 record last year to 16-8 in 2013. He also volunteered for the Headquarters and Service Battalion's color guard team, performing in numerous ceremonies for the community and military events. Sweigert also shows his dedication to fellow Marines by maintaining his certification as a Never Leave a Marine Behind suicide prevention team instructor since 2012. Outside of his military duties, he has maintained a 3.75 grade point average working towards his degree in Social and Criminal Justice through Ashford University, recently making the dean's list for academic excellence.
