U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Michael E. Langley, Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic (FMFLANT), Marine Forces Command (MARFORCOM), Marine Forces Northern Command (MARFORNORTH) commander, tours Fort Pickett, Virginia, on Jan. 23, 2022. The purpose of the visit was to see the facilities on Fort Pickett, meet with service members supporting the Task Force, and discuss future plans for Operation Allies Welcome. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
