Historically, LHD 7 was launched on Feb. 4, 2000, and was christened by its sponsor, Mrs. Zandra Krulak, wife of Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Krulak, Pascagoula, Mississippi, March 25, 2000. The visit served as an opportunity to bring cohesion to both commands' combined efforts and align respective subordinate commands in this progressive step for Navy and Marine Corps integration.
