Cavanaugh toured the ship to evaluate operational readiness impacts and to be provided a better understanding of the ship’s daily restraints. The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship LPD 19 works in tandem with Marine Corps Marine Expeditionary Units due to it being specifically designed to accommodate Landing Craft, Air Cushions and a helicopter pad for littoral mobility.
