Ahmed Williamson, center, recipient of 2024 Stars and Stripes Honors award, at the 38th annual Becoming Everything You Are (BEYA) conference, Baltimore, Feb. 16, 2024. During the conference, Cavanaugh participated in mentoring sessions for STEM (science, technology, math, engineering) students and represented the Marine Corps to present the 2024 BEYA Stars and Stripes Honors award for outstanding leadership in STEM to Williamson, highlighting his role as the director of Manpower, Plans, and Policy Division at Manpower and Reserve Affairs: “His expertise was instrumental to developing the diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy for the Marine Corps, and his thoughtfulness helped leverage the talents of all Marines while capitalizing on innovation and adaptation to changing global circumstances.” Each year BEYA hosts over 2,500 college-bound K-12 students for three days of learning, networking, celebrating excellence, and showcasing STEM career opportunities.
